Individual Development Accounts IDA
Volunteer Income-Tax Assistance:(VITA)

Individual Development Accounts (IDA)

IDA AccountsIndividual Development Accounts (IDAs) are matched savings accounts that enable low-income families to save, build assets, and enter the financial mainstream.   IDAs reward the monthly savings of working-poor families who are building towards purchasing an asset – most commonly buying their first home, paying for post-secondary education, or starting a small business.  IDAs make it possible for low-income families to build the financial assets they need to achieve the American Dream. .Volunteer Income-Tax Assistance: (VITA)

Tax PreparationCAPSBC operates a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site each year to prepare and file taxes free of charge for eligible households with income of no more than $50,000 per year.  VITA volunteers are all certified by the IRS after undergoing Basic and Advanced training modules.  VITA helps to obtain tax credits for qualified families, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC).  CAPSBC’s Family Development Program has been operating a VITA site since 2005 and has prepared a total of 1,010 tax returns, capturing $1,269,773 in total Federal refunds.  Recruitment of VITA volunteers for 2014 will begin in August 2013.  Call the Family Development Program for more information.
